Bulgaria is one of the candidate-members of the European Union. On the 16 of May 2006 the final decision for the accepting will be announced. The first planned date is the 1st of January 2007, but according to many expert opinions and reports, the country is still not ready to enter the EU. The greatest obstacles are the legal system and the organized criminality.

In respect of the economy, it is often announced that the country is also not ready. The truth is another - economically Bulgaria has been ready for a long time now. Bulgaria has many resources in the tourism, which could be a ground for the whole economical infrastructure (if there is goodwill and loyal competition).

Most likely on the 16th of May 2006 it would be announced that Bulgaria will be accepted on the 1st of January 2007...naturally with many conditions to fulfill.
