What is SEO?

SEO = Search Engine Optimisation

SEO, as stated, stands for search engine optimisation. There are many forms of "SEO", but there's basically two main things that are needed to remember when finding out what Search Engine Optimisation actually is, or how to go about optimising websites

2 Factors to Search Engine Optimisation

The 2 main factors to search engine optimisation are on page and off page optimisation. Sounds simple? Well..there's a lot needed to learn about each. On page optimisation consists of many factors. These can include meta optimisation, title optimisation, keyword research and analysis, competitor research and analysis, body text optimisation, just to name a few. Off page optimisation, also known as "off site" optimisation, is doing work on a site that will help it search engine wise, but does not actually require any modification to the site. This could be things such as building links to the site, writing articles about the site, press releases, marketing, ppc management, and many other factors.

Which is more effective for Search Engine Optimisation?

To be fair, theres no right or wrong way to go about this. On page and off page optimisation, are both done and needed as part of a successful seo campaign. On page optimisation is important to make sure that when your site does get crawled (viewed by search engine spiders), that they pick up what you want them to pick up, theres important and good content on pages that is fresh, and your page is actually about what your titles and meta information say its about.

Off page optimisation, is mostly to do with getting links back to your site. Search Engine's such as Google love to rank sites with more backlinks, with desired anchor text links to their website back to them. Its important to find a good balance between on and off page website optimisation. This is in order to get the best results for your site, and make sure you have "all angles covered". Search Engine Optimisation is a tricky business, but its certainly never too late to learn
