If youre part of a multi level marketing opportunity and youre trying to build up your business, youll want to hear this story.
A friend of mine told me about a guy she knew who had recently started delivering a very well known British catalogue door to door (well call it Wipe Clean), selling products for the home and garden. He was looking to introduce others into the business, in order to build up his own level of income.
So he started speaking to his warm list the people he knows best to see if anyone was interested in joining him.
He started with his two neighbours. Well change the names to protect the innocent, but the story goes something like this.
Hey John, he said to the first neighbour. Ive just got involved with a company that has a multi million pound turnover, delivering quality products door to door. This stuff sells itself all you do is deliver the catalogue and your customer base grows from there.
That sounds fantastic, said John. Have you got any more information? Id like to find out more
He then went and spoke to his other neighbour, Dave. Hey Dave, he said. Ive just started my own Wipe Clean business, delivering catalogues and products door to door.
Oh dear, said Dave. Have things got that bad?
Apart from changing the names of the neighbours and the company, that is a true story. Two prospects, one opportunity. One saw the potential, one didnt. And it all came down to a few choice words.
Sometimes a perfectly good opportunity will be surrounded by misconceptions. Its up to you to make sure you present whatever you are promoting in the best possible way.
Because as weve seen from the example above, if you dont, youll have lost your prospect before youve even started.
