Singur rally: Left to put up united face on Nov 29

In order to put up a united face over the Singur issue, the Left Front is going to organise a massive rally at Singur on November 29. This was announced today by Left Front chairman Biman Bose.

‘‘In order to spread the message that we are united over the Singur issue we are going to hold the rally. We will tell the people that on the question of development of the state, particularly the issue of setting up of the Tata Motors’ small car unit there, we are all united,’’ Bose said.

Apart from Bose, the rally will be addressed by all the leaders of the eight other members of the Front, Bose announced.

It may be mentioned here that Front partners like CPI and Forward Bloc earlier had often questioned the state government’s move of acquiring fertile agricultural land for setting up of industries. Discordant notes were even expressed by CPI(M)’s own ministers like Abdur Rezzaq Mollah, minister for land and land reforms.

Today Biman Bose also took potshots at Mamata saying she was bringing people from outside of Singur to hold agitations there. ‘‘How many of the people who are agitating there are farmers of Singur. They are all outsiders. Mamata has no support from the people there,’’ Bose said.

He also criticised Mamata’s announcement that she would shed her last drop of blood in order to resist the government’s move of acquiring land at Singur. ‘‘There are many social causes for which she can donate blood. Why should she shed blood there. We pray that she remains hale and hearty,’’ the Left Front chairman said.

A meeting today was held at Alimuddin Street where an assessment of the performance of all Left Front ministers was done. ‘‘Our ministers are seriously working for implementation of Left Front programmes and policies chalked out for the welfare of the people,’’ Bose said.
