Born in the first half of the last century if asked to put a face on evil, like my parents before me I probably would have pointed to Adolf Hitler followed closely by Mussolini and Tojo. Today I would have to say Harry Reid, Ted Kennedy, recent losing presidential candidates, and of course the two discussing Senators from California. I am wrong, but so are most people!
Recent events have caused me to rethink the nature of evil and what is more evil. The dictionary in my Coral Word Perfect 12 word processing program defines evil as: " deeply immoral and malevolent. 2: embodying or associated with the devil." There is no question that my choices are evil, very evil! Certainly there are degrees of evil! Hitler and friends were certainly more evil than Reid and friends have had the opportunity to be, as of yet!
If we recognized there are lesser degrees of evil could there be a greater degree of evil?
It's hard to think of anyone or anything more evil than those listed. Hate, radical prejudice, social suppression, and mass murder (only the older) what could be worse?
In the 1930's and 40's these world leaders made no attempt to hide what they were. Today's politicians are much more devious having learned that few people look beyond the title of a bill, and they don't worry about hiding their true nature.
What could possibilities be worse? The compromiser! Again my program defines compromise as: "1 an agreement reached by each side making concessions."
The art of the compromise is a valued social skill that we all teach our children. To compromise on minor things is a great and good skill, but there can be no compromise between good and evil!
When good compromises with evil, evil wins! Every time! No matter how little the compromise is evil wins! This is so simple a concept that I have can't understand why more people don't get it.
Lets look at a different compromise. Every few months no matter where you live your local power company will request a rate increase. Your states' public service commission will take the matter "under study" eventually issuing a compromise decision, saving the consumer huge amounts of money! Despite all the savings your power bill goes up! The power company collects more of your money and goes back to the public services commission again, to win/compromise again!
It's the same thing with good and evil, any compromise is a win for evil, and after every little win evil comes back for more! So what's the most evil face of WWII? Neville Chamberlain, the British prime minster who's compromises allowed Hitler and friends to take over Europe and devastate the world. This man proclaimed his goodness and compromised one country at a time. Hitler kept accepting little victories until he could make his big moves.
So which Democrat is the true face of evil? None of them, the most evil face in politics today is George W Bush, only because the Presidency has so much more potential for good than the Senate other wise the winner would be "The Manchurian candidate," John McCain!
I've waited more than half a century for a Republican White House and Congress, finally we get it and there is no leader ship.
They say Clinton is still trying to come up with a legacy. Well GW better wake up. GW has two pending legacies, the only President besides Regan to stand up on his own two feet since Truman bombed Japan, we'll not go into Trumans' disgrace in Korea, or the Carter like wimp that gave away our country!
Wake up, George, you've got two and a half years to make this the country the one we were always so proud of.
