Are you new to paintball and you are looking at buying equipment for the first time? There are a few questions you must answer before we go further.

What type of paintball do you play, Airball, woodsball, or a little of both?

If you play airball at all you will want a gun that has a high rate of fire. There is nothing worse then being out on the airball course and getting mowed down by the other team. You will want to stay away from flatline or apex barrels since you don't need the distance you will want the accuracy.

If you primarily play woodsball or scenario games you necessarily don't need a super fast gun since most engagements happen over time and there is plenty of room to move around and trees to hide behind.

When deciding on electronic or non-electronic paintball marker look at the field and the style of play you will primarily be playing. If you are playing tournament style fields you will most likely want a light gun that shoots fast.

Deciding on a brand of Paintball Marker

There are many brands to choose from and the most popular brands are Spyder, Tippmann, and Smart Parts. If you pick any of the three brands you cannot go wrong. All three have excellent customer service, reliable products, good warranties, and a large dealer network to support the products.

Do I need to spend $700+ for my first paintball marker?

I don't think you need to. My suggestion to people is go buy a good package and play for few months. Decide if you are going to stay with the sport and decide what aspect of the sport you like playing. You can then buy a gun that better fits your needs. Remember its not the gun that makes the player its team work and tactics that makes a team a winner.

Compressed Air or Co2?

I will list the obvious first. Compressed air is extremely expensive to purchase versus Co2. However the cost to fill compressed air is lower and over time will be cheaper then co2. Co2 can be filled at most fields, most stores, and some large chain stores.
