Have you ever wondered what on earth the causes of ringworm are, and why it itches so much? Well, if you have ever had it before I'm sure you have. Ringworm is definitely no fun to deal with. The itching and discomfort it creates can drive you nuts. So, what are the main causes of ringworm? How do you get it anyway?

Direct Causes Of Ringworm

It is important to understand that the fungal causes of ringworm are everywhere. You can get it from doing something as simple as walking barefoot on the ground, to walking around a swimming pool.

The fungus thrives in areas that are very warm, moist, and humid. You often hear of ringworm, or athletes foot as it is also referred to on the feet, being found in locker rooms and showers. This is because it always warm and wet. It makes it so easy for it to spread.

You can also get ringworm from your own pet. Dogs and cats can spread it quickly. If your pet has it and you pick them up and start loving on them, guess what? You're likely to get it to. Anyone who works around livestock is also very susceptible to getting ringworm.

Indirect Causes Of Ringworm

Getting this fungus from indirect causes is quite common and the worst part is you don't even know you're being exposed.

You can get ringworm by showering in a locker room, playing on a gym mat, using the comb or the hat of someone infected, and even walking around the unwashed area of a swimming pool. One of the most bizzare ways of getting ringworm is by walking on infected soil in your bare feet. Who could ever know that?

How will you know if you've got ringworm? You will see a reddish colored patch that has a ring around it. You will also itch like crazy. It's an itch that no amount of scratching seems to satisfy.

Ringworm is highly contagious and a real pain to deal with. But, although the causes of ringworm are extensive, the good news is that it can be eliminated pretty quick with good treatment.
