The "Crack of Sweeteners" Is Found In Most Soda Today, They Are Thinking Of The Diabetic Trends.

Soft Drink Ingredients Claimed To Increase Obesity, Diabetes, Heart Disease and Osteoporosis. Real Action Is Being Prepared All Over The United States. Weight Loss Is On Everyone's Mind.

August 18, 2006, Chicago, Illinois Hold on to your hats, there is action a-foot. Since soft drink ingredients are claimed to increase obesity, Diabetes, Heart Disease and Osteoporosis, real action is being prepared all over the United States.

North Dakota is considering putting warning labels on its packaging.

Florida wants to ban its consumption in schools and public places.

The Center for Science and the Public Interest recommends a tobacco-like tax be levied on every purchase.

And a number of studies, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and others, call for it's elimination from our diets.

What lethal, toxic product is causing this national concern?

It's that harmless-looking, heavily advertised can of Coke, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper or 7Up, containing a low cost, highly controversial ingredient called high fructose corn syrup.

Called the "crack of sweeteners" by Florida State representative Juan Zapata, high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), is at the center of debate among business, government and medical community organizations.

Armed with a number of clinical studies and statistics, opponents of this low cost sugar alternative claim that HFCS causes or precipitates the following conditions:

· "...Plays a role in the epidemic of obesity", according to The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition · "Double (s) the risk of Type 2 diabetes...among those who consumed one can of non-diet soda daily", according to a recent Harvard study · Contributes to the rise in diabetes and heart disease by depleting chromium levels (www.provenresultshealth.com), raising triglycerides, and impairing immune system function, as stated by Earl Mindell, author of Prescription Alternatives. · "Robs our bodies of calcium, leading to a condition known as osteoporosis - soft teeth and weak bones", states Dr. David Rubin, author of Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Nutrition"

The Corn Refiners Association, an industry trade group defends its sizeable interest in HFCS (over 50% of all sweetened products sold in the United States contain this ingredient), saying "there is no scientific evidence that supports (these statements)."

But most in the medical community disagree.

"Anyone who cares about their health or the health of their family would not consume these beverages (containing HFCS)", says Walter Willett of Harvard University.
