CHATTANOOGA TENNESSEE A CASE STUDY IN RACISM AND BLACK ON BLACK DISCRIMINATION

Part 15: The Devil's Advocate: Paul A. McDaniel In the name of God, Master of the universe, Ruler of the earth.

We are grateful that some believers have heard our pleas to the people of God. However the blind, lost, wayward, wandering non-believing sheep hear nothing. Nevertheless, even when the pleas from the people of God are lost in the morning and evening wind we have Joy. We have Joy because we are certain that our pleas are heard by the Creator who rules all that exist on the planet earth. We continue to pray for the lost and ignorant. We continue to pray for our enemies and for wisdom and knowledge. We thank God for His blessings and we pray that we will never forsake God for man and the world.

We look to the New Testament for a word from God to establish a scriptural framework for the analysis we will make in the preceding pages: II Timothy 3: 1-6. 1. "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy. 3. Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good. 4. Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God."

As the last days of the world continue to move toward the inevitable, many men of the cloth have become victims of the world. As we go through the journey of life, the righteous see light in the midst of the storm. We pray that man will refute the evil ways of the world and stand up for God. Satan and the wicked world will leave you, but it is written that God will never leave or forsake his people.

The Preachers that accept the ways of the world have become the Devil's Advocates. This mission contradicts the expressed mission of God's messengers. We call on all Preachers' to rebuke Satan and accept God?

In Chattanooga, Tennessee during March 1978 the voter's approved a County Government constitution change. The change in County Government led some political observers to speculate that this new system would "add Blacks and Republicans to the county governing body." (See Chattanooga News Free Press, "Amendment Changes County government," March 8, 1978, p. 1).

The previous County Council had been in existence since 1941. Also, White Democrats had dominated the previous Council. The new county reorganization resulted in the creation of two predominate Black districts. The newly created Black districts were districts four and five. Paul A. McDaniel (the pastor of Second Missionary Baptist Church) ran against and defeated James Map local NAACP official. (See Chattanooga Times, June 21, 1978, "McDaniel, Taylor Commission Nominees P. A-1. Paul A. McDaniel thus began a career of compromise with the Devil. God has called Preachers to Preach. God has not called them to get involved in the corruption of politics. The following statements are taken from "The Black Conspiracy." See Chapter 5 "Black Organizations" and Chapter 6 "Contemporary Black Leadership." unpublished manuscript previously rejected as a doctoral dissertation by Atlanta University Political Science Department.

Mr. Walter Tate makes the following statements regarding Black leaders in Chattanooga: "First, I do not view those that generate from the White power structure as valid leaders. This includes all of the Black elected officials. In my view all of these officials pay homage to the White power structure." (Walter Tate, taped interview by Carl Patton, Chattanooga Tennessee, December 3, 1983).

The White power structure in Chattanooga has had a historic involvement in the control of Black leaders. This involvement is revealed in the comments of Kirkland Robinson. The major theme in Robinson's argument undoubtedly is the hard line position taken by Black leaders (sanctioned by the White power structure) regarding challenges to their power. Robinson responds to questions, regarding the plight of independent young Black leadership in the following manner:

"The power structure is receptive to a trend that previous leaders have laid down. The strategies have not changed. There is no encouragement for young progressive Blacks to enter the leadership ranks. The efforts to destroy young Black leaders are a joint effort by the existing Black leaders and the White power structure. These covert efforts seek to destroy your credibility and remove you from your place of employment. (Kirkland Robinson, taped interview by Carl Patton, Chattanooga, Tennessee, December 3, 1983. Mr. Robinson at the time of the interview had been economically lynched from an administrative position with Hamilton County Government).

The tactic, regarding denial and dismissal from the ranks of the employed is a crucial factor in the on-going effort of Black leaders in Chattanooga to maintain a firm base of control. In this setting we see John P. Franklin (elected 1971 to the City Commission), Clarence B. Robinson (elected 1974 to the State Legislature) and Paul A. McDaniel (elected 1978 to the County Commission) spearheading the attack on positive and independent Black leadership in the Black Community. These ungodly Black Traitors established the contemporary precedents for Black on Black discrimination stemming from the electoral arena.

Meanwhile, we see Paul A. McDaniel also establishing a political organization (The Unity Group) to further sell his soul and the Black vote to the White power structure. As an advocate of the worldly ways of corrupt politics we see Paul A. McDaniel as Satan's Advocate. The ungodly ways of man may bring a brief thrill of happiness. However, the wages of sin will bring eternal damnation.
