The Contest held on the net are not always that easy to chew and digest. The possiblity is that you may loose everything and gain nothing. Read On.

Hi friends.I want to warn all those Graphics Artists who are trying their luck in gaining a little bit of money and fame by entering online contests held in various forums on the net.

Modus Oparandi : These guys who held contest for a small amount makes it look easy by putting prize money of 50$ to 200$. NOobs and pros both get easily attracted to such contest. They will register in the forums and within second to twenty posts , post the contest. First of all they are totally unreliable. The worse thing is that any one artist can design exactly what a client wants but they simply want to get the best for a small price. They want to get a lot of people to work for a small job and pay even less. Most contest end around 1 week to 1 month.

Many artist work and spend lot of time on the contest that if compared to a company would have to spend 10 times the amount spent in the contest. Only one or two will win the prize.

Various possibilities: They had already run a similar contest elsewhere and it failed(they ended it without prize) because though they received a lot of entries which are good ,they(and their client was not satisfied) ended it or is still running. How can they run parallel contest? Are they gonna give separate prizes? Certainly not. Worse thing is they will never let a forum know that a parallel contest is running on other site. (Google can find it ) Winners will never receive prize. They will take your samples and hire a pro to revamp it. The person is not talented in the art form that he requires and is not able to judge. He will lead a voting process where the contestants and other forum members will choose the winner but only if he find that there are entries worthy (depending on his choice actually).

I am strictly against these contests. Cause there is no formal rules, unlimited variation of rules along the length of the contest held is always there. What at the begining is wanted can be unwanted at the end Types of Contest: Logo, banner, website template, flash games etc..

What should a contestants look for: 1. Check the baground, is he a regular member, did he, described the requirements of contest in detail. 2. How many entries are filled. Most of these contest allow multiple entries. this is not good. Multiple entries should be limited like 1 to maximum 3.anything more than that is simply a waste of time. 3.If the contest already contains more than 10 entries for 100$ contest,I think that contest has already got 'Enough' as compared to total entries I think that guy has already saved 10times.

Lastly those contest which are held by a reliable source like the forum site owner or a regular forum member \moderator etc.. that contest can be considered a lot different from the one I mentioned and you should enter such contest if you want to . I think this is enough to give the general idea. Copyright Saurabh Torne ITnauts.com
