Learn More About Tussocks

Have you ever heard of Tussocks, Sudds, Floatons or Floating Islands?   If not, the solution|result] is simple; they are clumps of  Floating peat, muck and marine floras.   Organic detritus and flora roots are also  in the structure of these islands.   The islands deviate in size, being a small as a few square feet or as large as a number of hundred square acres.  These naturally occurring islands can be found everyplace.   They are more normally found in lakes and marshes.

Cattails, bulrushes, sedges and reeds, which have extended from  a wetland land, are the most familiar components of tussocks.   Flora that hangs over the shoreline will ofttimes begin to build up.  This could happen as a result of  low water levels; water flora tips may try to reach the water, which results in hanging and finally separation.    Marine organisms flourish under the floating mats.  Eventually, a harsh weather or storms tears off the section.   Then it starts to migrate and bonds to another landform. This newly formed tussock then drifts and binds to another landform.   Wind helps to move the mass  along, but anything to harsh can destroy the mountain.   Some larger Tussocks are able to hold trees that grow up to 50 feet  tall with diameters between 8-12 inches.

Tussocks are a symbolic representation of the maturing process of bodies of water.   Tussocks are said to be a part of the shallow lakes in Florida.  Their number and size was altered by droughts, fire, and floods.   Floods are the most common mode of transfer for Tussocks.   Downstream fenland and upland  are the most familiar deposit areas for Tussocks.

Today, water levels are maintained by  man made structures such as wires, levees and dams.   The man made structures deter Tussock shaping because water levels are often too high or too low.  Most individuals, these days, dont  cherish the influx of drifting islands.  The island not only holds itself, but it might also carry many other creatures.   Many times reptilians and amphibians hitch a ride on a Tussock.  I personally dont think someone would enjoy the arrival of a huge deadly alligator beside their home.   Floating islands dont just carry dangerous creatures; they can also bring helpful plants and herbs your way.

Drifting islands could also cause another significant problem.  A floating island might block an access to an significant place such as a busy port.  This can cause many problems for business people who works near areas of  water.   It is not uncommon for ships to be stopped or damaged by Tussocks.    Drifting islands are also able to stop up the path of an irrigation system.   Governments  have spent millions trying to stop drifting island from disrupting the everyday flow of transportation traffic.   herbicides have been used in an effort to control the Tussocks.   Sometimes pricey ways like shredders and barge mounted track hoes are also used for gaining control.
