Domain Name Investment - Everything You Need to Know
Permalink

Today, more and more people are beginning to invest in domain names. You might be wondering what makes people do so. The answer is simple: the internet is fast becoming the 'place to be,' as more and more people have access to it, and want to claim their very own space. From personal journals to businesses, charities to support groups, people are relying on the internet for practically everything.

People are also starting to secure their own places by getting their own domains. Registering a domain name means getting a dot com, dot net, or dot org of your own, and this has many advantages-foremost of which is its easy remembrance. So it is naturally a good investment for many. If you want to try your hand at domain name investment, here are a few tips that will assure that you get a good domain name worthy of investment:

First, think of the top level domain or TLD. As much as possible, get a dotcom since they are easiest to remember, hence making them the most valuable. The reason for this is that people have always associated dotcoms with the internet, so whatever your name is, chances are, people will put a dotcom at the end of it when they are typing your address. You don't want to register for a dot net even if the dotcom for your name is no longer available, as people might type in dotcom and end up visiting another site altogether.

What will your name be? If you are just beginning to choose one, make it short. As a general rule, domain names have to be short and catchy so they will be easy to remember. The shorter it is, the more valuable it will be. Chances are though, you will not find an available domain name that is only a few letters, but keep your name to at least two words, and it will still be profitable in the future.

Try to think of a prospective buyer, and gear it towards him or her (or the company). Is your name relevant to today's times, or is it already popular? If not, will it be, in the next few years? To whom will you market your domain name to? Is it for charity, for booklovers? Is it business-oriented? Thinking of these will help assure you of buyers in the future, if not now.

The reason it's called an investment is because you have to wait for a while for the prices to go higher and higher. You can try thinking of future trends-figure out what will sell years from now, or if it's already valuable and you got it, hold on to it and wait for the price to go up. Remember that the internet is continuing to attract more and more people, and years from now, domain names will be so much more in-demand, as more and more people will want to create their own web sites.
