Domain Name Investment-Your Ultimate Guide

Thinking of investing in a domain name? Today, the internet is becoming more and more powerful, as more and more people are beginning to realize its uses. Almost everyone has access to the internet, and it has bridged different people from different parts of the world. With the world getting smaller and the use of the internet spreading fast, domain name investment is something that many people are beginning to get into.

A domain name is equivalent to an address of a local store, for example. In the internet, to go to a 'place' or a web site, you need to type in an address. The shorter the address is, the more valuable, because it is easier for people to remember. The most important thing in the internet is the visitors to a page or web site, so the more visitors you have, the more valuable your domain name or page will be. Here are a few tips on how you can invest in domain names:

First, think several years ahead. Today, there are certain domain names which are very popular, because of the current trends in our society. Think ahead and predict the future trends. What will be en vogue years from now? From that, you can think of possible domain names which will become popular, and secure them as your own so that you can sell them for a high price in the future.

People have always associated dotcoms with the internet, so when securing a domain name, get a dotcom. Even if your name is unique, catchy, or popular, if it has a dot org, dot net or others, its price will be incomparable to a dotcom. Dotcoms are precious, so if you want a good investment, register for a dotcom. People always tend to put a dotcom after the name, so buyers will naturally want a dotcom.

Think of the name. It is unnecessary to say that the domain name you choose should be short. If you have your own dotcom but your name is ten words long, what does it matter? Getting your own domain name is for easy remembrance, so keep your name short and catchy. A fun or unique name is always a plus. It might be impossible to get a domain name with only two or three letters in it, but the best thing is having a one-word domain name, or at least two.

If your domain name, on the other hand, is too unique and weird-sounding, chances are people will not remember it as well. Learn from the masters; yahoo, google, flickr, and friendster have all become brand names. You want something that is easy to pronounce and therefore easy to remember. Domain name investment need not be a complicated process; all you need to know is that times change, and so does the internet world. But several things remain true; a good, short name will always be the best investment, as it will be easy to remember and will draw in the people.
